Mass-Casualty Attack Prevention & Survival

The Down Range Tactical Solutions Mass Casualty Attack Prevention & Survival "Active Shooter" and Violence Mitigation Class is a one day course that will teach students to both prepare and if necessary, react to an active shooter scenario. The course is not designed to create heroes but rather raise awareness with todays ever increasing threat of violence.

The response time of law enforcement can vary greatly, which active shooters rely on to inflict greater casualties. During the course students will be taught theory, safety measures, and proper weapon handling for confronting an mass-casualty attacker.

Employers are legally bound to provide their employees with a safe work environment. With the rising threat of work active shooters and workplace violence it is imperative that all employees are trained to recognize and react should workplace violence occur. Being properly trained to recognize the pre-cursors of violence in the workplace can potentially deter violence and save many lives.

OSHA STANDARDS & GUIDELINES
One of the regulations under the Occupational Safety & Health Administration Section OSHA of the United States Department of Labor *General Duty Clause, Section 5 (a)(1) states, “Each employer shall furnish to each of his/her employees, employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his/her employees”. Recent court rulings have shown that active shooter situations are a recognizable threat, resulting in civil lawsuits and fines to employers.

The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides an annual count of fatal work injuries in the United States, including homicides.

For the past 10 years there has been a reported 43% increase of homicides in the work place. Currently, on average, 46% of all homicides in the work place occur due to shooting deaths, and that is on track to continue to increase annually.

According to the Michigan Chamber of Commerce; Under the OSHA General Duty Clause, employers are required to provide a safe workplace free from recognized hazards that can cause death or serious injury to employees. This does not mean only hazardous materials and conditions, which requires a "hazard identification, hazard mitigation, hazard control" response. Employers must now address the "hazard" of an aggressive intruder or active shooter who means to do harm to people in work settings.
